Now more than ever, it seems like people that lack motivation turn to things like inspirational videos, or cheesy instagram posts. But after 30 minutes of getting ourselves pumped up, we only get a night of productivity if we are lucky. I’ve struggled with this myself throughout my journey and recently have found a method that helps me get motivated and in a creative state of mind. That method is to do the thing you are hoping motivation will help you achieve. I’ve noticed that only once I begin working do I find my groove and start creating stuff I’m proud of. I’m currently trying to dedicate a chunk of time every morning to working on my craft in order to make progress daily. This also forces me to sit and do the work, which often leads to me finding that motivation I was previously seeking. Some mornings I even find the coveted “flow state”. I’ve summed up my new strategy to, actions dictate feelings. Doing the work leads to motivation, not the other way around. If we let our feeling dictate what we do, often we will do nothing at all. Go give it a shot, force yourself to do the work for 30 minutes and odds are you will end up working for a lot longer.
